Electronic Advisor: What
To Do If You Get in Academic Difficulty
- Do not procrastinate and put off getting help. The quarter
system moves very quickly. The longer you wait to seek help, the
more difficult it will be to make changes that can improve your
academic situation.
- SEE YOUR ADVISOR IMMEDIATELY.
- Analyze your study habits and time management skills. If these
are a problem, seek help from the
Academic Skills Center.
- Are you having personal problems that affect your ability to
concentrate on your academics? If so, make an appointment to see
someone in Counseling Services.
- If you feel you are not adequately prepared for one of your
classes, consider withdrawing from it and taking a lower level
class to refresh your knowledge. You can drop a class through
CPReg on the
my.calpoly.edu
portal until the end of the 8th day of the start of classes.
Through the seventh week, you may withdraw from a class if you
have a serious reason. See the instructor of the class and your
advisor for advice.
- Are you having problems setting goals and deciding on a future
career? Sometimes indecision or confusion about what you want to
do after graduation can make it hard to devote the necessary time
and energy to your studies. Contact
the College of Agriculture, Food & Environmental Sciences career
counselor in Career
Services for help or visit the
Career Services website and follow
the links to the career exploration area.
WHATEVER YOU DO, DON'T JUST IGNORE THE
PROBLEM. THERE ARE MANY PEOPLE AT CAL POLY WHO WANT TO HELP YOU
SUCCEED.
