Cal Poly Day at Swanton Pacific Ranch to be Held Oct. 9

The annual Cal Poly Day at the university's 3,200-acre Swanton Pacific Ranch will be held Sunday, Oct. 9. The event includes a Santa Maria-style barbecue lunch; train rides on the 1/3-scale, steam-powered train; railroad and ranch activities; live music; and a showcase demonstration by the Cal Poly Logging Team. An extension of Cal Poly's agriculture and forestry disciplines, the ranch was donated by College of Agriculture, Food and Environmental Sciences alumnus Al Smith. The cost is $30 for adults; children ages 4 to 10 are $15 each; admission is free for children 3 and under. Early registration is recommended as the event sells out each year. For more information and to register, visit the Swanton Pacific Railroad website.
