MEET THE CAFES PROFESSIONAL ACADEMIC ADVISING STAFF:
Departments: BioResource and Agricultural Engineering
Food Science and Nutrition
Cathy previously worked as an academic advisor at Azusa Pacific University. She also worked as an adjunct professor teaching English, managerial communication and conflict management and negotiation.
Departments: Horticulture and Crop Science
Natural Resources Management and Environmental Sciences
Sara previously worked at Lone Star Community College as an advisor, as well as an instructor for the College Success Course/First Year Seminar. She earned a bachelor's degree in psychology and legal studies and a master's degree in human development and leadership, both from Murray State University in Kentucky.
Leanne Berning, Ph.D.
Department: Animal Science
Dr. Berning is a longtime faculty member in the Animal Science Department. Her full biography can be found here
Craig has worked as an academic advisor at Cal Poly since 2008. He received a degree in kinesiology from McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario, and a master’s degree in theology from Biola University in La Mirada, Calif.
Department: Agriculture Education and Communication
Wine and Viticulture
Rachel has worked as an academic advisor at Cal Poly since 2011. She has been a student affairs professional at a variety of schools across the country, with a focus on leadership and student development. She holds a bachelor’s degree in psychology and communications/public relations from California Baptist University (Riverside, Calif.), a master degree in family therapy from Hardin Simmons University (Abilene, Tex.), and is currently working on a doctorate of education in Educational Leadership from Creighton University (Omaha, Neb.).
Department: Experience Industry Management
Dianne has worked as an academic advisor at Cal Poly since 2011. She has a bachelor’s degree in government from California State University, Sacramento, and a master’s in education with a specialization in counseling and guidance from Cal Poly.
