Friday, April 7: Newly Admitted Students Day

Friday, April 7, is dedicated to newly admitted students and their families who would like to learn more about the hands-on educational programs in the College of Agriculture, Food & Environmental Sciences. At the University-wide welcome at 9 a.m., hear from University President Jeffrey D. Armstrong. At 10 a.m., parents will hear from Andrew Thulin, the Dean of the College of Agriculture, Food & Environmental Sciences, and students will meet current Cal Poly students from departments across the college.

*At the Admitted Students and Parents barbeque, the College of Agriculture, Food & Environmental Sciences will serve more than 1,600 student-produced hamburgers on compostable plates. This student-run barbeque event will have recycling and composting receptacles, striving to make the annual barbeque a Zero Waste event. All water for this event will be provided by Crystal Springs Water Company of San Luis Obispo.

**Come join us for our 77th Annual Poly Royal Rodeo. Top college athletes from the western United States will be competing in non-stop intercollegiate rodeo action. 

***Friday Night Invite is an event where prospective students will be able to have fun and meet each other in a fun environment.  This will take place in the University Union Plaza on Friday night. There will be a DJ, bowling, pizza, games, crafts, and a club fair.  During this time also, the Transfer Event will be happening for potential transfer students to meet and interact, while still being close enough to attend Friday Night Invite.


This is your opportunity to hear from the department heads, meet faculty and learn more about the coursework, internships, and hands-on learning opportunities in each specific department.


Department Chair Cyrus Ramezani, along with faculty members and student representatives, will address many of the common questions we normally receive from incoming students and their parents.  There will also be a brief question and answer period at the end. Location: Building 8, Room 100

Agricultural Education & Communication

Admitted students and their guests will have a chance to meet department faculty and staff, along with students representing the Ag Science and Ag Communication degree programs. Much of the time will focus on answering questions from prospective students and guests, and current students will provide their insights about the major and department. Come prepared to learn about your new major and meet new friends. Location: Building 10, Room 226

Animal Science

The Cal Poly Animal Science Department is considered one of the nation’s most interactive, hands-on animal programs. Come learn more about this amazing department. Location: Building 6, Room 124

BioResource & Agricultural Engineering

The mission of the BioResource & Agricultural Engineering Department is the study, teaching and practice of engineering and laboratory-intensive classes. Through practical design and problem-solving experience, our students receive the skills, tools and opportunity to build what they design. Stop by to meet with current students and faculty and discover BRAE – we believe the difference is undeniable! Location: Building 8A, Lab 1

Experience Industry Management

Meet with faculty and students to find out more about the EIM department and why it is our vision to promote healthy lifestyles, protect memorable places, and facilitate life-enhancing experience for individuals and communities around the globe. Food Science & Nutrition

Horticulture & Crop Science

Come hear an overview of the Horticulture & Crop Science Department, including a meet and greet with faculty, staff and student club officers and a discussion of opportunities in the department and university. Location: Building 11, Room 104

Military Science & Leadership

There will be an overview of the program and address questions from prospective students and parents. Location: Building 34, Room 115

Natural Resources Management & Environmental Sciences

Come meet department faculty, staff, and students, get answers to burning questions, and see short videos on how we approach Learn by Doing. Location: Building 180, Room 101

Wine & Viticulture

Admitted students and guests are invited to meet faculty, staff, and current students for an overview of the newest department on campus. Come discover what makes the Wine & Viticulture Department so unique. Location: Building 26, Room 103
