Five Things You Should Know about the Campaign for the $68.3 Million J.G. Boswell Agricultural Technology Center: A Place for Applied Sciences and Innovation
 

  • The last CAFES teaching and research building was constructed nearly 35 years agoThe college is now utilizing existing buildings at 113 percent of capacity. 
 
  • CAFES is in critical need of teaching and research space, offices and conference facilities. As our new faculty seek to develop their teaching and research, they need state-of-the-art equipment and facilities to prepare graduates for the global demands of the next century. 
 
  • Expanding agricultural research facilities will allow the college to work with more industry partners to solve real-time problems.  
 
  • CAFES new strategic vision outlines the college’s goals through 2020 – aligning the college to be the intellectual and experiential hothouse, cultivating and nurturing people who creatively solve problems in agriculture, food, health and the environment. The Boswell Ag Tech Center is the next step in providing the infrastructure needed to meet those goals.   
 
  • Each of the nine college departments and their more than 4,000 students will benefit from the new facility and its offerings.
    Lab focus areas include: 
    Plant Pathology; Physiology and Genomics; Soil, Water and Air Quality; Animal Physiology; Food Safety Teaching and Research; Food Nutrition and Metabolism Analytics; Product Development; Culinary; Sensory Analysis; Food and Beverage Analytics; Health and Performance.
