Daniel J. Howes

Dr. Howes, a full professor in the department, is a Cal Poly alumnus (MS in Engineering with a Specialization in Water Engineering) and a Project Manager at the externally funded Irrigation Training and Research Center housed in the BRAE department. He is a registered Civil Engineer in the state of California and received his Ph.D. in Civil and Environmental Engineering from UC Irvine. Dr. Howes teaches Irrigation Theory, Drip Irrigation, Irrigation System Design, Irrigation Project Design and Water Wells and Pumps. His current interests include open channel flow measurement, farm turnout flow measurement, utilizing remote sensing (satellite data) to compute actual crop evapotranspiration, irrigation operator safety, and irrigation district modernization. Dr. Howes is the graduate coordinator for the MS in Engineering with a specialization in Water Engineering and the MS in Agriculture with a specialization in Irrigation.
