Preparing Future Leaders of the Feed Industry
The Animal Nutrition Center is a state-of-the-art feed production facility designed for teaching and research at the technological level of today’s feed industry.
Students engage in every stage of animal feed processing—from formulation, manufacturing and merchandising to packaging, marketing and research—while also managing the facility’s daily operations. This hands-on experience provides real-world insight into feed production, food safety and the critical role nutrition plays throughout the food chain.
The Animal Nutrition Center produces feed for Cal Poly’s campus animal units while also supporting contract research and future industry short courses.
The facility is equipped for grain drying and cracking, grinding, mixing, pelleting, liquid blending, bagging and bulk feed loading. These capabilities support hands-on research and provide industry professionals with training on new equipment, practices and techniques.
