From the Dean - Summer 2026

Dear Friends,

As I reflect on my first year leading the College of Agriculture, Food and Environmental Sciences, I am filled with gratitude for this extraordinary community and inspired by what we continue to accomplish together. Throughout the year, I have witnessed firsthand the power of our Learn by Doing resolve, the dedication of our faculty and staff and the remarkable achievements of our students and alumni.

This issue of Cultivate celebrates those stories. You'll meet students pursuing careers that will shape the future of agriculture, environmental engineering and public service, alumni whose global experiences have fueled entrepreneurial success and cadets completing the final voyage of the Golden Bear. We also highlight the hard work of our students to accomplish the return of the Poly Royal Rodeo to the Spano Stadium, innovative agricultural robotics, commencement celebrations and milestones marking our college's 125th anniversary.

Together, these stories reflect a college grounded in tradition while embracing innovation and opportunity. Today’s achievements are built on solid footing – thanks to your continued support and partnership as we prepare the next generation of leaders who will make a lasting impact on California, our nation and the world.

Wishing you well,

Brian Horgan
