Cal Poly Fall 2018 Enrollment Applications Top 65,000 to Set Another School Record

SAN LUIS OBISPO — Cal Poly received a record number of applications with more than 65,000 first-time freshmen and transfer students seeking to enroll for the 2018-19 school year.

“This is the largest undergraduate applicant pool in Cal Poly history with 65,507 undergraduates submitting on-time applications,” said James Maraviglia, associate vice provost for marketing and enrollment development. “This includes 54,732 first-time freshmen and 10,775 upper-division transfer students seeking to attend Cal Poly.”

It is a 13 percent increase from the 48,609 incoming freshmen who applied in 2016 and a 31 percent rise from the 8,240 transfer students who applied last year.

“The interest in attending our Learn by Doing campus underscores the value of a Cal Poly degree, a welcoming campus community, and especially our award-winning faculty who are committed to student success,” Maraviglia added.

Nearly one in five (19 percent) of freshmen applicants applied only to Cal Poly between Oct. 1 and the Nov. 30 deadline.

Acceptance decisions should be announced well before the April 1 national acknowledgment date. Fall classes begin Sept. 20, 2018.
