Honored Alumnus
Tim Doelman, a 1996 dairy science alumnus, is a scientist, entrepreneur and business leader whose technology-driven innovations have reshaped the food and beverage industry.
As CEO of fairlife LLC, a Chicago-based health food company, he helped pioneer advanced processing methods that deliver higher-protein, lower-sugar beverage products to consumers worldwide. He also spearheaded innovations behind Core Power, a high-protein recovery beverage, and launched a startup focused on sustainable and functional beverage solutions.
A proud Mustang parent and generous supporter of the College of Agriculture, Food and Environmental Sciences, Doelman continues to redefine how food science and technology shape the future of nutrition.
A New Chapter
Scott Steinmaus, head of the Plant Sciences Department in the College of Agriculture, Food and Environmental Sciences, will return to his faculty position at the end of the 2025-26 academic year after serving as head of the department since 2014.
During his tenure he oversaw the department’s strategic evolution strengthening its academic identity, expanding student interest and deepening its connection to industry and applied research, including the transition from the Department of Horticulture and Crop Science to the Department of Plant Sciences. A national search for a new department head will be held.
World Ag Expo
A group of CAFES Ambassadors hosted an information booth at the World Ag Expo in Tulare in February, meeting with prospective students and their families.
In addition, more than 200 alumni and friends joined the college for a reception sponsored by Dust Bowl Brewing, owned by college alumni Karen (Human Development, ’91) and her husband Brett Tate, and Brett (Industrial Technology, ’04) and Camy Honoré (Agricultural Business, ’03), to meet new Dean Brian Horgan.
Unified Wine and Grape Symposium
The college hosted an Alumni and Friends Reception at the Unified Wine and Grape Symposium in Sacramento, with students staffing a tradeshow booth during the two-day event in January.
