Student Success

We are equipping our students with the resources needed to become tomorrow's leaders. Investing in our students ensures that we recruit and retain the best and brightest students; and provides them with the knowledge and skills needed to be successful in industry as soon as they graduate.

SCHOLARSHIPS

Financial scholarships for students in the College of Agriculture, Food and Environmental Sciences (CAFES) remain a critical need. Even with financial aid packages, parental assistance, and loans, some students cannot close the gap between their available resources and the growing cost of education.

CAL POLY SCHOLARS

Cal Poly Scholars is a university-wide scholarship program that aims to recruit and retain high-achieving students with financial need from California high schools. In addition to the scholarship, the program provides credit towards a personal technology package in the first year, plus proactive advising and a living/learning community throughout the Scholars’ four or five year experience on campus.

EARN BY DOING INTERNSHIP PROGRAM

The CAFES Earn by Doing Internship Program is an opportunity for students to gain paid work experience at one or more of the college’s on-campus food and agricultural production units or departments. The program allows students to work part-time, up to 20 hours per week, gaining technical skills in positions directly related to their chosen careers.

SUMMER UNDERGRADUATE RESEARCH PROGRAM (SURP)

The CAFES Summer Undergraduate Research Program (SURP) is an opportunity for undergraduate students to work collaboratively with faculty on cutting-edge research. Students engaged in undergraduate research develop advanced problem-solving and critical thinking skills, learn how to gather information, analyze and evaluate evidence, and gain enhanced communication skills.
