National Champion

The Cal Poly Dressage Team placed in the top 10 at the national Intercollegiate Dressage Association competition in Mill Spring, North Carolina on April 25-27. Introductory level rider Caroline Kargenian, a second-year animal science major, placed first and is recognized as this year’s national champion in her level.

 

Student Leadership Awards

The College of Agriculture, Food and Environmental Sciences Student Leadership Banquet on May 30 honored some of the college’s top achievers.

Louis H. and Stella Soares Outstanding Achievement Award in Agriculture: Megan Dixon, third-year agribusiness major

 

Academic Excellence Award: Doreen Dyt, fourth-year agricultural business major

Contributions to the Objectives and Public Image of the College: Abbie Brown, fourth-year animal science major

Contributions to the Objectives and Public Image of the University: Samuel Andrews, fifth-year environmental management and protection major

Service to the Community: Sofia Reyes-Parra, fourth-year agricultural business major

Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Award: Isaac Lopez, fourth-year agricultural science major

 

College National Finals Rodeo

The Cal Poly Rodeo men’s team placed fifth, while the women’s team placed sixth in the nation at the College National Finals Rodeo in Casper, Wyoming on June 9-15. Pierce Wold, a third-year agricultural business major, and Tucker Donlon, a first-year agricultural systems management major, earned a Reserve National Title in team roping. First-year agricultural science major Haleigh Grant placed sixth in the nation. She also earned NIRA Women’s Rookie of the Year and the Breakaway Roping Rookie of the Year. 

Performance Horse Sale

On June 1, students in the Quarter Horse Enterprise sold nearly 30 two-year-old fillies and colts which they trained for ranch and performance disciplines. The highest selling horse, CP Wright on Mollie, was auctioned for $43,000, trained by student Serafina Madonna, a third-year agricultural communication major.

 

Soil Judging

The Cal Poly Soil Judging Team won seventh place at the National Collegiate Soils competition at Iowa State University in April. The competition included 23 teams from universities throughout the nation. This marks the third consecutive year that the Cal Poly team has placed in the top 10.

 

First Place

The Cal Poly Floral Design Team was awarded first place in the national at the American Institute of Floral Designer’s Symposium held in Orlando, Florida in July. The Cal Poly team, comprised of Marlene Delgado, a fourth-year agricultural and environmental plant sciences major and April Marshall, a fourth-year studio art major, competed against teams from Texas A&M, University of Missouri, University of Kentucky, Senica College, Kishwaukee College, Mississippi State University and New Mexico University. Delgado placed second overall and Marshall placed fourth overall.
