FROM THE DEAN

Dean Bill Hendricks

While the campus may be a bit quieter during the summer months, there is no shortage of hard work being done. Students and faculty continue to forge forward in research and learning across the campus, collaborating on projects that provide the hands-on education that Cal Poly is known for.

Students are immersed in a Learn by Doing culture that promotes discovery. With the continued focus on climate smart research, work is being done across the college to ensure that students graduate prepared to address the complex challenges that the future brings.

In this issue you will read stories about novel approaches to land management, students immersed in research centered on environmental sustainability, and of the work being done to ensure that we are prepared for the growing nature of wildfires.

The college continues to invest in the infrastructure needed to ensure that students are afforded the tools and technology needed to continue this quest of innovation. Construction has begun on two new centers of learning, the George Wurzel building within the Plant Sciences Complex and the Charles and Claire Jacobson Animal Health Center, that will enhance the opportunities offered to students in plant, environmental and animal sciences.

The College of Agriculture, Food and Environmental Sciences is, and will continue to be well into the future, the center of innovation in food, agriculture, and environmental sciences.

Thank you for your support,

BILL HENDRICKS
